Question : The heterosporous pteridophytes show certain characteristics, which are precursor to the seed habit in gymnosperms. Explain. |
|
Answer» Solution :• Heterospory : Means development of two TYPES of spores, small microspores and large megaspores. Their main GOAL is to produce male gametophyte and large megaspore female gametophyte. • Male gametophyte produces male gametes while female gametophyte (archegonia) produces female gametophyte and were over rise to developing embryo. • The theory of heterospory LEADS us towards decomposition in gametosis. In situ body germination of spores, maintenance of megagametophyte and at the end seed formation. Thus heterospory in SELAGINELLA forms basis of seed formation/ seed HABIT in gymnosperms. |
