Question : Two organisms occupying a particular geographical area ( say desert ) show similar adaptive strategies. Taking examples, describe the phenomenon. |
| Answer» Solution :Every geographical area has some specific TYPE of environmental factors which influence all the organisms of that area e.g. DESERTS have dry, hot and xeric conditions and less availability of water so organisms found in the desert (e.g. camels and kangaroo rats) show similar adaptive strategies aimed towards conservation of water. Both expel highly hypertonic URINE and highly solid faeces as REABSORB lot of water in their nephrons of the kidneys and large intestine. This phenomenon in which animals of two different groups of animals undergo similar adaptations for survival in the similar habitats is called convergent evolution. Hint: Consult convergent evolution in mouse and marsupial mouse | |
