Answer» Solution :•Two TYPES of spores are produced in pteridophytic plants like Selaginella and Salvinia, Microspore and megaspores are called heterosporous. Microspores and Megaspores produce male and female gametophytes respectively. • Significance : The female gametophytes in these plants are retained on the parent sporophyte for variable PERIODS. • The development of zygote into young embryo TAKES place within the female gametophytes. • This event is a precursor to the seed habit considered as an important step in EVOLUTION. Where all MEMBERS are heterosporous. e.g. selaginellay Salvinia, Marselia. |
