Question : What is oxidative decarboxylation ? What happens to pyruvate immediately after this reaction ? Name the enzyme involved in this reaction.

Answer»

Solution :(i)OXIDATIVE decarboxylation involves the loss of TWO hydrogen atoms (dehydrogenation) and loss of `CO_(2)` MOLECULE from a compound.
(ii)In cell respiration, pyruvate undergoes oxidative decarboxylation in the PRESENCE of enzyme pyruvate dehydrogenase COMPLEX and co-enzyme - A and changes into 2-carbon compound acetyl Co -A.
