Question : Whatwould be the base sequence of RNA transcript obtainedfrom the given DNA segment ? 5' - G C A T T C G G CT A G T A A C-3 Coding strand of DNA 3' - C G T A A G C C G A T C A T CA T T G-5' Non - coding strand of DNA

Answer»

5'-G C A U U C G G C U A G U A A C-3'
5'- C G U A A G C C G A U C A U U G -3'
5'- G C A T T C G G C T A G T A A C -3'
3'- C G T A A G C C G A T C A T T G-5'

Solution :(a) : The two strands have OPPOSITE polarity and the DNA-dependent RNA polymerase ALSO catalyse the POLYMERISATION in only one direction, that is , `5' rarr 3'` the STRAND that has the sequence same as RNA (except thymineat the place of uracil ) is displaced during transcription. This strand (which does not code for anything ) is referred to as coding strand.
