Question : Where are thearchegonia in angiosperms ?

Answer»

Solution :Angiosperm are characterizedin having highly reduced female gametophyte ( embryo SAC ) in which the ARCHEGONIA are either higlyh reduced, disoranized or disappeard. There are MANY viewsregarding the archegonia in anigosperm.According to Schurhoff (1919,1928), the 4 nuclei at the mciropylar end of embryo sac REPRESENT two archegonia. One synergid and the egg from one ARCHEGONIUM and the other synergid and upper plar nucleus constitue the second archegonium. According to anotherviw of Porsch , 4 nuclei of micropylar end constitue one archegonium( tow synergids are quivalent to neck cells and the polar nucleus is euquivalent to ventaral canal cell ) and 4 nucleis of chalazal end constitue the second archegonium. However , many workers believe that archegonia have completely disappeard in angiosperm .
