Answer» Correct Answer - b (b) Carbohydrateds are more suitable for the production of energy in the body than proteins and fats, because carbohydrates molecules contains relatively more oxygen than the others, and consequently, requires less molecules of oxygen for their oxidatio. In other words, for each litre of oxygen consumed, carbodydrated yeild far more enerty than proteins of fats. Carbohydrates are also stored in the tissue as glycogen for use in the production of energy, when necessary. Glycogen is the stored fuel particularly in such tissues as skeletal muscles which then have to work with a supply of oxygen fast lower than their immediate need. |
