Read the following passage carefully. Perhaps you have seen a green, fuzzy spot on bread or cheeses. If so, it was probably mold. Mold is a kind of plant called fungi. The most common molds are green or black. Mold likes to grow in a moist, warm places. But where does it come from? Mold comes from spores, which exist in the air. If these find a moist, warm place they will produce mold. Mold grows weds of fuzzy branches. It continues to grow as long as the conditions are right. Foods such as cheese, fruit and bread can develop mold, If they are left out in a warm damp room. Mold may even grow on leather shoes, belts or furniture. Mold is usually thougt of as a problem. But some molds are valuable to scientists. The most famous mold is called penicillium Notatum. This mold is used to make a valuable drug called penicillin.
