1) The maiden walked up slowly and quietly to the dead body of the warrior and removed the face-cloth that covered his face. 

2) The maiden removed the face-cloth supposing the sight of her husband’s lifeless face would move her and she would cry. 

3) Lightly here means slowly and quietly. 

4) The sight of her husband’s lifeless face did not have any effect on the widow. Still she did not cry. 

5) The rhyming words in the stanza are; place – face; stepped – wept;
