Alexander: What is that condition? Puru: My kingdom should remain independent and you should treat me as your equal. Alexander: Agreed, (after a pause) I’m proud of your friendship, my brother. Answer» 1) The generals thought that Puru was a proud king because Puru was talking and behaving like a king with self respect and sovereignty though he was in captivity. 2) Puru was a noble king with sovereignty and self respect. He was courageous and brave . man. Such kings live like kings and like to die as kings. They don’t like to be as slaves, vassals and subjects of any other kings. 3) Puru wanted to be treated as a sovereign king by Alexander. 4) If his kingdom was allowed to remain independent and he was treated as equal to Alexander he would make friends with his equal. 5) If I were Alexander, I would also treat Puru as Alexander treated him).
