Today women in India occupy challenging positions. There are women pilots and women serve the armed forces too. There are successful IAS and IPS officers. Kiran Bedi is an example for a successful police officer. There are women chief ministers, M.P.s and M.L.A.s. To add a feather to their cap, Mrs. Indira Gandhi was a successful Prime minister.

Our constitution guarantees equal rights to women. In Tamil Nadu, the right of inheritance has been given to women. Education and employment has been made a basic necessity for women. Though there are many progresses in the lives of women, still the other side of the coin is noteworthy and terrific. Dowry death and Eve teasing still prevails. Female baby is still considered a burden and female infanticide is still in existence. Male chauvinism is hurting women.

Sania Mirza, Kalpana Chawla, Sunitha Williams and many such women add glory to womanhood.

Government must give 50% reservations to women in higher education and career choice.
