Sand drops from a stationary hopper at the rate of 5 kg s^(-1) onto a conveyor belt moving with a constant speed of 2 m//s^(-1). What is the force required to keep the belt moving and what is the power delivered by the motor moving the belt ?

Answer»

<P>

Solution :IMPULSE J = Ft = mv , Force : `F = (mv)/(t), upsilon = 2 ms^(-1), (m)/(t) = 5 kg s^(-1) RARR F = 5 xx 2` = 10 N
Power `P = (W)/(t) = (Fs)/(t) = F upsilon = 10 xx 2 = 20` watt.
