Show that a screw gauge of pitch I mm and 100 divisions is more precise than a vernier caliper with 20 divisions on the sliding scale.

Answer»

Solution :Least count of SCREW gauge = `("Pitch")/("No. of divisions") = (1 mm)/(100) = 0.01` mm
Least count of vernier CALIPER = `(1)/(20)` mm = 0.05 mm
As SHOWN, the least count of screw gauge is lesser than vernier caliper, hence screw gauge more precise.
