Answer» Xylem tubes carry WATER, absorbed from the roots. Where as PHLOEM tubes carry FOOD(mostly sugar). ANOTHER difference is that xylem carries the water UPWARDS towards the leaves. Phloem on the other hand carries the food down, away from the leaves(to the roots).May 27, 2019
