1.

Solve: 2x - 3y = 7, 5x + y = 9

Answer»

Given equations are,

2x − 3y = 7 .......(1)

and 5x + y = 9 ........(2)

Multiply equation (2) by 3, we get

15x + 3y = 27 ..........(3)

Add equations (1) and (3),

17x = 34

⇒ x = 2

Put this value in equation (2), we get

5(2) + y = 9

⇒ 10 + y = 9

⇒ y = −1

Therefore, the solution is x = 2,y = −1.
