Solve : Active Directory on NT 4 Domain?? |
|
Answer» Hi, Upgrade the NT box to Windows 2003. Or windows 2000- W2K also supports active directory, and would be more usable for a NT4 spec machine. My problems stem from the fact that we have an old domain which is run by a Windows NT4 server as the domain controller. We also have one other NT server and three Windows Server 2003 servers. The Windows Server 2003 servers are complaining with the ATTACHED event (12317) regularyly occuring. The microsoft solution is to fiddle with the Active Directory. Being an NT domain we have no active directory. How can I get this probem solved? Can I use DFS form the 2003 servers and ignore the NT servers? Can I implement Active Directory on the 2003 servers and ignore the NT servers? My boss has his plans and money is not exactly plentiful. So, an upgrade is in the distant future.Quote from: Geek-9pm on November 26, 2008, 04:48:31 PM No I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't KNOW what I'm doing. Cheers Geek-9pm, I enjoyed the website. The joke pages were particularly good.Quote from: Baffled on November 27, 2008, 03:15:07 AM My problems stem from the fact that we have an old domain which is run by a Windows NT4 server as the domain controller. That would be your best bet: http://www.petri.co.il/active_directory_migration_tool_usage_nt_windows_2003.htm Once you're done with that, demote the NT box to a member server and use it as another file server or something... |
