Answer» Windows XP Home SP3 I have a 30gb internal IDE now with 10gb remaining, but possibly on it's last legs so have made a backup just in case. I also have a 300gb usb connected external drive and that also has only 10gb remaining, so more overall storage is needed asap. *censored*, more money to fork out! I've decided to go for an 80gb IDE to replace my C drive, (keeping it small to save time on backups, checking etc., and another 500gb IDE internal drive which L think l'm going to partition into two - 40GB to take another operating system, and the remaining 460gb for additional storage. Sticking with IDE as my board is not SATA compliant and l can't be bothered complicating things by buying additional PATA/SATA converters and drives etc, plus the speed already is more than adequate for my needs. I've only installed an OS once, the one on my C drive. So how would l install another OS to the 40gb partition (let's CALL it X) on the new larger drive? When l originally installed Windows it just loaded onto the C drive automatically. PS I suppose it's easier just to plug in another external drive but that means yet another power supply plug and socket, so l thought l'd add it internally to run off the computers PSU. Any advice appreciated. Thank you 1) Why an 80GB drive? Why not get a large drive and create an 80 or 100Gb partition (or larger) as the system partition and then repartition the rest as you like? You can install your primary OS on the c: drive and a DIFFERENT OS on a different partition if you like. OR, you can still add a second internal HD if you like. It's just that I don't see the point of getting such a small hd when the difference in price between an 80GB and a 500GB isn't really all that much.
2) Just insert the OS cd and when the installation starts you'll be asked where you want to install it. Just remember life will be much easier if you install the oldest OS first. Thanks Allan, that's answered my question. I know that if you buy a computer nowadays it generally comes with just the one stonking large drive. I thought of two drives because if l just have the one, and lose it for some reason, then l'm stuffed until l get another hard drive to copy the data back onto. (that's me just being pessemistic).
