hi i have laptop and desktop and 1 adsl conection now how do i conect BOUTH computers on 1 adsl conection
thanks These are the general ways two PCs use one DSL connection.
1. This DSL modem is also a router with wireless.
2. Or, a router is installed alter the DSL modem.
3. A tireless device is installed on the PC and "bridged."

My favorite is #1. Cost me $80, but it eliminated all the hassle.
Number 2 is fair, but some routers are have a fussy setup.
Number 3 is the cheap way. If you already have two wireless things.
But trying to understand how to do the bridge TAKES over a day.
Unless you follow instructions, which is emotionally difficult for me!


the modem is d-link but i thing it has no wiralesWho is your DSL provider?
What model is the D-link? If it has places in the back to plug in more computers it is a router. If it has a rubber ducky, it is also wireless.
If it is only a modem, it has just power, phone and one network plugs.

You might find a good USED one on eBay for uner $30. But you take a chance that it may not be very good.
I got one off of eBay. Mine had a problem with the antenna. It is broken, yet it still was good at close range.
But there should not be a problem using other brands. I have used combinations of DSL modems and routers and was able to get them to work together.so u r saing that i must bye a wireles routher if i want to conect laptop and desktop on same adsl conection If you wish to not use a router, then at lest one of your computers has another network device that can talk to the other computer.
As I recall, a Hub after a modem does NOT work.
Examples:
1. The laptop has just a wireless connnection. The Desktop has both a wireless and a wired Ethernet.
2. The Laptop has both Ethernet and Wireless. The Desktop has wireless.
3. Both machines have more that one type of connection.

The idea is that you can not simply 'split' the cable coming out of the modem like you can a telephone connection. They don't work that way. One of the machine has to have another network device. The computer with the two network devices must be running Windows XP and the two CONNECTIONS must be bridged.
