Answer» i have a home wired and wireless network running off a Netgear DG834GT router. it connects to my pc via a cable and a laptop wireless.. i am having trouble connecting my desktop pc to the network. it has worked for ages and suddenly now hangs at aquiring ip address, the laptop will still connected both wired and wireless.. i have tried connecting the desktop pc wirelessly but it does the exact same thing.. any help would be apprecitated.
thankswas also wondering if there is any way of controlling the amount each computer on the network downloads. i think this may be hard because the computers all connect directly to the router but if there is any way it can be DONE i would like to1. Desktop Computer. Connect the desktop via "wire" to router. From a command window execute "ipconfig /all" command and post back with the results.
a. To access command window from Windows XP TRY "Start" -> "Run" -> enter "cmd" or "command" without quotes in text box and hit Enter key.
b. Within command window enter "ipconfig /all > %systemdrive%\hope.txt" without quotes.
c. Use notepad editor to cut and paste contents of "hope.txt" to this thread. I believe variable %systemdrive% maps to logical drive containing Windows operating system; e.g "c:"
2. Controlling Downloads. I have no answer for this.i cannot get onto my pc ryt now as i am having hard drive problems but will get back as soon as possible.. i have done this and got 0.0.0.0 for both the ip and default gateway and blanks for the rest. but i will do it again asap and post results0.0.0.1When we right click the local internet connection at the bottom right, there is repair option that will repair and make the connection.
I have had the same problem several times and the repair option always works.
Software that hides your IP can cause the no connection problem but repair will put you back on track.
Good Luckthanks.. i tried the repair numerous times and it come up with an error straight away saying that it couldnt refresh the ip adress or sumfin.. i no the ip adress of my router and the computers that use it are each reserved ip adresses so i enterd those as my ip adress and default gateway and got a connection with limited or no connectivity and no internet. at one stage i could ping google from cmd but couldnt access it from internet explorer or firefox1. It would probably be faster to have you read what Microsoft has to say on the subject: Troubleshooting network connection problems
Setting up your network Securing your network Using and maintaining your network
2. Or you could provide the requested "ipconfig /all" output. We don't know what your current configuration is (and it seems to be CHANGING all the time).
3. Safe Mode with Networking. It's a long SHOT, but if you're running Windows XP does it connect after booting to "Safe Mode with Networking"?i cant now coz i cant get the rest of my pc to work...sigh but as soon as i can ill do ipconfig and tell u WAT it says thanks
