Hi, first let me apologize for grammar I'm typing on my phone and its a pain.

I just moved in a coed house. I hookup my DESKTOP and phone to wifi and everything is running like a charm! I go to store, COME back an hour later and no internet. It says belkin 3008 connected. 54mbps! Excellent signal and everything but there's a red x by internet.

I don't understand my phone and desktop were working before I left. I just moved in today. I've had to bug the owner a few times, I really don't want to bug him again but I need my computer online. I don't even know where the router is. There's 6 other undergraduates here, there were 2 extra cars when I got back, maybe 2 many connected or something I don't know. I did sys. Restore. After searching I tried ip config. Black box appeared for one second. I tried other ipconfigs buy it did nothing. I know nothing about ipc and pinging.

Xp sp3, Comcast Belkin router, my wifi adapter is netgear. My phone also times out when USING this wifi but it shows connected...

ThanksSince you have a connection to the router, the PROBLEM is likely the modem, which is what connects to the internet. Sometimes the modem & router are in one box (mostly for DSL), usually separate boxes for cable. If you are the only one in the house not able to get to the internet, it could be a security issue with the router, i.e. the router LEASE is expiring too soon. They may have it set up so no neighbors can use their connection. You will probably have to contact the admin (owner).
