Answer» Last Friday, I purchased a Belkin N300 to set up wireless internet on Win Xp. At first I couldn't GET the router to connect with the modem. I spend nearly an hour on the phone with a REP who kept asking me to perform the same STEPS over and over again. I eventually found a solution myself by restoring default settings. Afterwards, I changed the password thinking I was finished, but then I noticed the connection still wasn't letting me use the wifi, I tried to follow the WAN IP instructions since I noticed a constant inconsistency with the IP address. For some strange reason, the system went haywire all over again. But this time, though it was connected, I could not use the web interface. I searched on line and tried some ideas out.
I did IPCONFIG in the command line b/c I read that the default gateway was the number that should be used as a substitute for the web interface address. I kept getting connection errors or connection refused when I tried it.
I used Wireless Wizard 5.3 software as well. The results were pass for valid IP, Internet Connectivity, Sign in, and Wireless link quality. Mindspring aka Earthlink connectivity failed. Originally my IP Routing & Win Proxy were disabled. But I enabled them thinking it would solve the problem. It didn't.
Despite the the browser apparently being "connected," I couldn't do anything, so I pressed the reset button for several seconds. It's back on blinking orange (not connected) but now I don't know what to do to get it connected again. The interface is still rejected in the browsers. I have repaired my connection using explorer. Tried a fix on Wireless Wizard, and unplugged it as well. Nothing works. Belkin Software is all but useless for attempting a connection.
I want to restart my connection with router, return the settings to normal so that I can use resources like the interface, and fix the signal that accepts the password but gives no wireless connectivity to devices.
Browsers (IE, Firefox, Opera) all get the same errors. Web Interface: 192.168.2.1 address in browser Wan Ip Instructions: http://www.belkin.com/us/support-article?rnId=502 Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002, Service Pack 3 Intel Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz 3.19 GHz 504 MB of RAM Network Adapter is Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller
Wireless Wizard and Command line rsults are attached in screenshot.
[recovering disk space, attachment deleted by admin]It should t not be that hard. Some things that are not clear. Do you have normal service without the router? What kind of service do you have? DSL? Cable? Did you ask you ISP about using a router? Yes, it can make a difference. Model of modem? Router model? What other things are tied to router or modem?
Did you check DHCP settings? Only one device in the network does it.
It's a cable modem from Earthlink powered by TWC. If I remove the router, everything works just fine. I asked TWC and they said all I needed was a router. The modem only had one Ethernet cable. I was told by Belkin rep to plug the router's modem outlet into the modem and plug another ethernet cable to the computer and router LAN outlets. I will ontect my ISP again about it. It took the rep who told me this 45 minutes to explain their pricing so....different people, different answers. I'll login and explain what was said.
