My sisters and my computer were both hooked up to the internet through the D-Link router. Well, she unplugged anything and everything to get her computer packed away. I thought it would be nice to be connected to the internet directly instead of going through the router. As the title says, it's not working. I reset the modem several times until I tried just using the router again.

It likely is looking for the router to get an IP ADDRESS.Your post reminded me that I had set up a static IP back when I was behind the router. So, I decided to switch it back to "Obtain an IP address AUTOMATICALLY". Now... that kind of worked. I can search the web with GOOGLE and browse the other two tabs I have open, which are this website and wikipedia.

Would reconfiguring the NIC still work? If so, how do I go about doing that? I tried looking it up myself, but NIC can stand for a LOT of different things apparently.Fixed it. Just noticed the "obtain DNS server address automatically" option wasn't selected right before I closed the window. Everything seems to be working now.
