Answer» can crossover cable used in place of standard lan cableSometimes. New routes can sense that you have the cable crossed and after a short interval will switch it over to the right way. Most likely yes - It used to be the case that it wouldn't but ALMOST any router or switch MADE in the last 5 years (PROBABLY even longer) have 'Auto-MDIX' which will automatically detect the correct cable type and switch accordingly. I currently have a couple of crossover cables connecting my router to PCs and switches and they work fine (The crossover cables were on a great deal (£1 for 10m Belkin Cat5e) so it made sense to get them).Thanks..
