Solve : Can my wife and I share files between computers??

Answer»

My wife and I run off the same router and rather than her emailing me hundreds of pictures of our 5 month old, is there a WAY me can connect the computers to move the files more easily? What operating systems do you use on the computers?I use Vista and she has XP...Vista: In Control Panel, click on NETWORK and Internet for instructions on how to set up file sharing. My file sharing is on, but how do I work it, I guess is my question?
try to open the "My network places" on the start menu,
then look for "sharedDocs on (wife's computer name)"

then you can now copy your files into that folder.

if she wants to look for the files you've shared,

then she must look into "My Computer"/shared documents on the start menu.

Not too big on this, but don't you have to make sure you're both on the same Workgroup and set up a My Network Places sharing file?yes for example if shes wife you have to be as well, it so that if multiple workgroups were created it adds some control.No.
The sharing PC's do not have to be of the same WorkGroup, at least on my LAN.
I have a mix of WorkGroups and a mix of XP, W2k. Works fine.
I don't know if Vista would work fine if it were hooked up to my Lan. Is that so, I dont know what your doing but I had issues with that unless you have in more cards and rj45 connectors.Hey squall,

I just put it to the test again: Renamed one WorkGroup at will. Restarted the PC and got access as usual to the other two. The other two had access to the "Renamed" WorkGroup.
The only problem (for me) is "Remote Desktop", they must be on the same WorkGroup.
All THREE have individually access to the Router, not one hooked up to another.
Under MS, check "My Network Places", there it should show all the Shared Files
and "Microsoft Windows Network" there it should show the WorkGroups. Quote from: MikeOdd on February 20, 2009, 10:34:31 AM

I think the quidance here may have been confusing, due to different techniques MENTIONED. Where do you stand on this issue now?
