Solve : Can no longer access external HD wirelessly.? |
|
Answer» Hey guys. I have a WD internal IDE HD that I put in an enclosure to be used as external. Been using it for a few months and it WORKS fine. RECENTLY I got a Belkin N router and have been using my Archos IMT to play files on it from my computer using the router, obviously. I have no problem accessing files I have set to share on my C: drive. And when I first CONFIGURED the files on my external drive I had no problems either. Now, for some reason, I can't access the external on my Archos at all. I checked the share settings and they seem to be correct. And I checked in WMP and the folders I allowed to be shared from it are still there too. I've done some searches online for solutions but everything I've tried hasn't helped yet. Any suggestions? Thanks.Anyone?? You should check to see if your external drive is properly connected to the network (if it's AUTOMATICALLY getting an IP is it getting the correct one or is it in a 169 loop, etc.)How do I check that? And I forgot to mention that it's connected via firewire rather than USB. Would that make a difference?I found out one of my problems: I think I need to connect the HD directly to my router. But I think I would need to upgrade my router to do that. BUT I can't figure out why I actually WAS able access those files on the external HD wirelessly the very first time I tried it. STRANGE. So I guess now my question would be is there a way to access an external HD wirlelessly WITHOUT having it connected directly to a router? connect it to a PC and share from the PC. the PC will need to be on in order to access the shared files though. That's how I've been doing it. The HD is connected to my PC and everything is on.If it's connected to your PC you can just share it like any other drive or files by right clicking it and going to properties. If your router has a port you can plug it in there and configure it through the router. It seems the problem is an issue with using WMP to sync the files on that particular HDD because I connected another (portable) HDD via USB and set the files on it to share and it worked fine. So then I tried a program called Tversity. It let me sync the files on the original HDD and they showed up on my Archos media player but some would play and some wouldn't and they were all .avi files. Guess I'm just going to have to look around for some more programs till I find one that might work.Looks like I fixed the problem. I just stopped using WMP and am using a program called TwonkyMedia and it's working great and was a breeze to set up. |
