Solve : Can't access some sites?

Answer»

I have two web sites that I need to access but can't. I'm using Explorer 8 and Vista. I enter or click on the desired URL or copy and post (tried all three), it tries to initiate contact, the green bar at the bottom slowly goes to half WAY, then nothing. No error message, it just sits there till I can't stand it anymore. I've been trying for days now and always the same result.

I contacted both sites (by phone oe email) and both businesses said their sites are working fine. In the past I have been into both sites with no problems.

Can anyone help please?try Mozilla Firefox Browser to see if you can access those sites if you have not already attempted doing so.

Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded Firefox. I typed in the web address and the same thing. That was 10 minutes ago and it's still telling me it's loading and the green bar at the bootom is about half way there.usually MEANS site down temporalalyThat's what I thought but it happened 4 days running and counting. This afternoon I phoned one of the organizations and they said their web site was working just fine at that time. What sites are you trying to visit? Have you tried them on ANOTHER COMP?It seems like mostly government sites such as Servicecanada.gc.ca; canada revenue agency and canada pension plan. The other one is private and a secure site that I can see my phone bill on.

I haven't tried from another COMPUTER. Maybe this weekend I might have access.

the problem still exists today. No error message and it just hangs there. I tried turning off my DSL modem and back on thinking that may be a source. No difference. The Servicecanada.gc.ca site worked for me.I know. That's why it's so strange why it won't work for me. Are you trying to connect to them from your house or from work?

To those who tried to help with this problem, I have found a solution but not a fix. I took my computer to a a consultant and I was able to connect to all the web sites. He was using a different router. He then connected my computer to a similar router as mine and had the same problem.

My computer has the routing information and it automatically connects to the internet server. What we had to do was configure the router itself with the address. Now all the pertinent info is on the router so we bypass the need for my computer to configure it. I hope this makes sense??

Anyway, all is now well. We assume that Vista was somehow interfering with the protocols.
