Answer» There are four computers in the house. Three run Vista, and the other one runs XP Professional. The one that runs XP is physically connected to the printer and the router. One of the Vista computers cannot access the network printers while the other computers can. I also noticed that this computer can only connect to the other Vista computers across the network, but it cannot connect to the XP computer. The printer driver is installed on the computer CORRECTLY since the computer can print if the printer is directly connected. Does anyone have any ideas why this one computer is having problems?Could you give us the specifications of the machine that will not connect?Sure. The computer is a WINDOWS Vista Home Premium. It is a Toshiba. This computer had trouble connecting to the network already. We had to call one of our family friends over to get the computer to connect. He had to do something with the hard drive I believe. This bit of information might help shed light on the problem. So does anyone have any ideas?Yup. To start with: on one of the working computers and on the non-working computer, enter the following in a command prompt: "ipconfig /all". Copy and paste the results from both computers here.Sorry for the late reply:

C:\Users\Olivia>So does anyone have any suggestions about what is wrong and how to fix the problem? Will the machine that won't print see the other computers?
Have you tried re-installing the printer drivers?
Are the permissions set so that the one computer can see it?When you said this:
Quote from: smlh89450 on July 01, 2009, 01:35:21 PM I also noticed that this computer can only connect to the other Vista computers across the network, but it cannot connect to the XP computer.
what di you mean by "connect" - are you talking about browsing the file shares? As Quantos says, how are the permissions set on those file & printer shares?

Step one: which computers talk to their peers at the lowest level. From what you have posted, I suspect each will work.
OPEN a command prompt window; the same window that you entered IPCONFIG. Enter PING 192.168.1.100 and PING 192.168.1.108 in each machine.
Do same for addresses of all other computers. Each computer should 'PING' itself and all other three computers IF all computers are talking properly to each other at the lowest levels.
BTW, do same (if necessary) to verify communication only from each computer to router by entering PING 192.168.1.1
