Solve : Can't connect to wireless network?

Answer»

I have a wireless network and I'm trying to add my mom's Compaq LAPTOP to it.

When you click on available networks it shows and finds my network but it says: The wireless network requires the use of a Network key (WEP). To access this network, type the key and click CONNECT.

The problem is I don't what goes in the BOX. My router paperwork has an SSID and Passphrase. It won't take either of those. When I put them in it says: The network password needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters.

What's the deal? It keep's saying WEP my papers say my network is WPA/WPA2.

How do I make it connect? It's windows XP by the way.

Thanks!Hmm, I kept working with it and now shows it's connected with an excellent signal strength but it won't load pages. When you open IE it says there's no connection ???I'm confused. Okay so looking around on it I see that the IP address does not match my ISP's IP address.

Then I hooked it up to my broadband connection directly via Ethernet cable and the internet still does not work on it. What could the problem be?

Thanks! If you removed router, reboot modem. May have to reboot computer, too.
