Answer» Hi, I am having the same ISSUES with connecting another laptop to my wireless router HP Pavilion ze4930us. Intel Celeron 1.3 GHz, 224MB
I can log on with my other laptop. Panasonic ToughBook CF-W8 with Windows 7 Professional, 32 bit, Intel Duo CPU U9300 @ 1.20GHz, 2GB
I have Centerlink, ZyXEL PK5000Z modem, I tried to update the Firmware it has Ver. QZP002-3.4.012.0-PK5000Z; it says there is no new updates.
The error message says; Wrong key... This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal.
Here are the settings under Wireless Setup
Basic Settings - page 1. Set the wireless radio state. a. Wireless Radio; Enable b. Change the network name; Network Name; myqwest*** c. Write down the settings 1. Wireless Radio On 2. Security Types: WPA - WAP2 Personal 3. Security Key - 13 characters 1. Security Types = WPA - WPA2 Personal
Wireless Security - page 1. Select the SSID (Network Name) = Myqwest****
2. Select security type = A (a) WPA - WPA2 Personal (b) WPA Personal (c) WPA2 Personal (d) WEP (e) Security Off
3. Select encryption type = A (a) Both (b) AES (c) TKIP
4. Enter security key/passphrase = Use Default - the default passphrase has 14 characters. Not the 5 or 13 the warnings says it has to be. (a) Use Default Security Key/Passphrase (b) Use Custom Security Key/Passphrase
I tried placing "$" in front of the password like one website subjust and I have typed just 13 like it ask, but it STILL failed to connect.
I have ALSO changed it to Custom Security Key. It connects then I get a new message; "Limited or No Connectivity" I have rebooted and TRY to log on IE and it will not connection.
Thanks for all your help.If the router security encryption is set to WPA, the HP laptop should also follow the same encryption key. If the laptop does not support WPA or WPA2, its either you set the router back to WEP or upgrade the HP laptop's wifi adapter DRIVER or the hardware itself.Hum none of this is working for me and I need my computer for work soon Some clarification. The Windows 7 PC has no problem. The issue is with am XP computer - Right? Does it have all the updates?
Can the XP computer connect using direct Ethernet cable? Can the XP PC connect wireless if there is no security?
Do you have a link to the Modem/rooter documentation, or do you have a picture of it? Some new models have very tough security requirements. They require you to establish physical presence or use a very long key to prove who you are. This is more that just the WPA-2 thing. I have a modem/router that would not connect unless you gave the number printed on the underside of the modem.
