Solve : Can't use the internet on my laptop, even though Connect To says "connected"?

Answer»

In short: I can't use the internet on my laptop with my wireless router, even though Connect To says i'm "connected". I've been able to use it before, and when it acted up I (think) I was able to restore it by unplugging the router's internet cord (ethernet?) browsing the web with it in my laptop, and plugging it back into the router. But now it seems nothing will fix it.

Detailed: I've got a new HP Pavilion tx2110us with Vista Home Premium and a D-Link WBR-1310 Wireless-G Router. The router is just connected to the ethernet cord in my room because the routers instructions gave no information on making a SECURE connection with it to act as a sort of wireless extension cord rather than as a household's sole router.
For a while after the first TIME it was hooked up, I got no internet, until one time in Firefox a D-Link page came up asking for a password. I didn't do ANYTHING with it. So then finally later i started getting wireless internet for a few days (this I guess happened because I turned on the connection in Connect To). Then it stopped WORKING when I accidentally unplugged the router's power. Plugging it back in didn't solve it. But i think plugging the router's ethernet into my laptop for wired browsing, then plugging it back into the router later was what got it working again.
But now I've lost internet for no apparent reason (yes, still saying "connected"), and no sequence of unplugging and replugging, disconnecting and reconnecting, or turning off and on that I can think of is fixing it... Help??? Thanks!I had a similar problem, and the way it was resolved was by a call to the router manufacturer. What they said was that the encryption settings were wrong and they told me to change my internet uplink channel to get a stronger signal. And after changing the settings I have had no problems

hope your problem GETS resolved soon.
Silly me, that makes sense! Will do, thanks!
