Solve : choosing an n-speed wireless router?

Answer»

I want to buy a n-speed wireless router to replace my current D-Link G-speed router, and I'm wondering what I should be looking for (if anything). I was looking at bestbuy and they have on sale a belkin, a netgear, and a linksys, for $49, $59,and $69, respectively. I can't tell what the real difference is. Should I just get the CHEAPEST one, or are there other factors LIKE power and reception?

I want to get a new dvd player that can stream netflix movies, and I think I need n-speed. I also often get to work at home doing web and design work for a tradeshow displays website and it takes a lot of online time... it would be nice to be able to get a good signal in my backyard, if you get my drift... (it's hit or miss right now).

So are all n-speed wireless routers basically the same, or is there anything I should look for?

Thanks in advance!A wireless-N router will give you a lot better range than your current wireless-G.

It will also PROVIDE you with much higher speeds, my netgear claims up to 280Mbps, so ideal for streaming as you stated above.

I'd go for a Netgear wireless-N myself. The range you are probably looking at will have around 8 antennas GIVING good speed, reliablility and range. The wireless-N I have is at the back of the house and I can use my laptop to go on the internet sitting out front in my car (so the range of your avergae size house and front garden between the two)Quote from: kurmudgeon on January 19, 2011, 12:39:06 PM

I swear by Linksys. I enjoy the ease of installs for it. I just setup a wireless N network in my parents home and laughed at how easy it was compared to doing the same thing 2 or 3 years ago.
