Solve : College Internet latency problems? |
|
Answer» I have a question that no one has been able to answer or fix for me. Im working on a college internet and im trying to play mmo games (world of warcraft mainly) but the latency is so high that I keep getting disconnected. Iv tried the Regedit fix and that dident work eaither. I think it is because we have so many computers hooked up to the same line because the latency changes throughout the day, I just want to know if there is anything I can do to my computer to make it run faster. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you. Are all of the dorm rooms wired? Or is this in a computer lab or library. What is the connection type and speed to the campus? Usually, colleges have fairly fast connections.Yes there is no wireless in any of the rooms. My speed says 100mbps...not shure if thats the computer's internet speed or mine. How would I go about checking what internet they have here? Your speed will be all over the place based on how many people are online at your college. You can play around trying to get the speed you want for gaming but really it all comes down to LIVING with what they give you or paying and getting your own connection. You live in a dorm so thats not really a easy fix. How would I go about checking what internet they have here? Anybody in the college IT department could answer that for you. Do other students have the same problem? It could be a campus problem or a localized problem. You need to narrow it down. Your IT department MAY even have some people that could help troubleshoot the problem.Use the following utilities (from a command WINDOW) in an ATTEMPT to identify the network node(s) responsible for the latency: o pathping o traceroute Also check the response times from your Domain Name System (DNS) SERVERS. |
