Answer» Hey i jus got a new motorola modem and COX cable says they are seeing that there is a signal coming from the modem. However, when i try to connect to linksys it says local only. I have try reseting the modem but it didnt work. I have windows vista. I think theres something i need to do on my actual laptop in order to connect but im not sure what to do. Any suggestions?I take it that the modem is actually getting a connection to the internet. You may need to adjust the DNS settings on your laptop. I'm not sure how to do this on Vista, try this: Right click the tray icon for your wireless connection and click open NETWORK connections if its there. Then right click the wireless connection (the one that says Connected) and click properties. Then scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), left click it then click the properties button. Then set all these settings to automatic, including automatic private IP address if you have this option, in XP it's under the alternate configuration tab. If this fails to help you out or these settings are already set then go into your command prompt and type: ipconfig /all copy and paste the results in this post and someone should get back to you.To get to command prompt in Vista click the Start Menu. click Search. type cmd. hold Ctrl+Shift and press Enter.Wired, or wireless connection? ROUTER involved? Its wireless and there is a linksys router. and there werent any of those things under properties for vistais this what u need? Windows IP Configuration

If so, do they connect?yes the switch is on and there are 2 other computers and niether picks up a connectionQuote there are 2 other computers and niether picks up a connection In that CASE, call ISP, get their lazy butts to your PLACE, and make them fix whatever is broken, to get a service, you're paying for. If it was me, I'd be REALLY pissed off, by now.
