Answer» OS: Windows XP MODEM: Motorola SURFboard SB5100
On my broadband modem i have noticed there is a spare ethernet cable connection at the BACK (it says in the manual I can use this or the USB connection to connect to my PC and surf the net, I am CURRENTLY using the USB connection.)
If I had a Ps2/Xbox could I connect it directly up to the modem, or would I have to buy a router which I would connect to the modem (and then connect ps2/xbox into the router) ? You want Xbox Live, don't you?I THINK your modem has a built-in router if it offers you more than one connection. http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/SB5101/downloads/SB5101_UG_EN.pdf
See at page 46/72 (number page 40 in their manual). It SAIS you can connect one network device with usb and one with ethernet, BUT if your ISP agrees. So, if you have a single IP assigned by your ISP, you will need to buy a router and use it's NAT service. All home small routers do at LEAST that thing.ok thanks for the info guys will try it out and see if it works
