I'm trying to setup a network bridge in my office. My desktop computer is connected with an internal wireless card. I created a bridge in my network connections between my wireless connection and my wired network card. Now if I plug a cable into my wired network card and then into another computer, the other computer should have a connection, right? I've done this before but now it's not WORKING.Ok I just TRIED the exact same thing except with my laptop and it worked fine. Maybe I just can't do this with a desktop for some reason?Is the desktop running a firewall?Just windows firewall, but I tried it with that turned off just in case, with no luck.Read the section about "Troubleshooting a Wireless Bridge" here. It seem some wireless cards needs a little extra configuration in order to work. Well I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I set it to promiscuous mode like the doc said and it's still not working! I know the nic works, because i've had it plugged in directly. I even tried a different one just in case, but got the same result.Do you think I may need to use a crossover cable? I'm using a patch cable, but it worked fine when I bridged with my laptop.Yeah that might be it. when you connect the two COMPUTERS with the patch cable do they detect a connection? There should be some LEDs on the NICs that lights up and the status for the connection in Windows should say connected. If not you probably need a crossover cable. No, neither of the nics on either computer light up. That might be the problem.

But it still has me confused why the patch cable would work when I used the laptop.If I remember correctly some NICs are able AUTOMATICALLY configure their Ethernet port so a crossover cable isn't necessary. If your laptop got such a NIC that would explain it. I can't remember the details right now but I'm pretty sure I read about it not so long ago.Thanks for the help.

I finally got the crossover cable and it works great!

Funny though, a regular patch cable will work if I use the laptop.... weird
