Difference between HARDWARE and software RAID..How it is configured? tools or software used?RAID takes both additional hardware and the software to RUN it.  Can you rephrase your question so we know what you are trying to ask. Quote from: rthompson80819 on December 13, 2011, 11:18:37 PM

RAID takes both additional hardware and the software to run it.

Sorry - not so.  Software RAID can run with no particular additional hardware, just the correct number of DISKS.

This is a MASSIVE topic though - there are as many different implementations of RAID in hardware as there are major software vendors.  Rather than reinvent the wheel, try this: hardware vs. software RAID.How to configure hardware and software RAID ? In some cases, but the majority off PCs only have one hard drive. Quote from: rthompson80819 on December 14, 2011, 02:03:12 PM

Software RAID can run across two different partitions on a single drive.  Not an awful lot of reason to do that though. Quote from: Rob Pomeroy on December 19, 2011, 02:07:35 AM

I understand that, but that kind of DEFEATS the purpose of having a RAID system.  That might be OK for a learning EXPERIENCE, but not for a real back up system.  That's definitely having all of your eggs in one basket. Quote from: ridhwan on December 14, 2011, 07:12:52 AM

I meant HARDware vendors.  Anyway, the question is far too wide.  Apart from advising you to "RTFM" - is there anything else we can help with?  Do you have a more specific question?

And why did you post this in the networking forum?
