Answer» I have an HP Elitebook 8460P that has a BUILT in wireless card. I use cable internet through Charter COMMUNICATIONS. When I use this laptop off of the docking station, my speeds show upwards of 40MBPS. When I pop this into the docking station my speed drops to below 10 MBPS and sometimes less than 1 MBPS. If I remove the laptop from the docking station and set it to the side, and speedtest, upwards of 40MBPS. This seems to be an issue with the laptop being docked.
I am not aware of the docking station having a wireless card inside of it.
I really need to be able to use the docking station as I need the serial port (which works) and the laptop does not have a serial port so NOT using the docking station isnt an option.
Laptop running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 32 bit. 6Gig RAM; Intel Core 2.50 GHz.
Please let me know if someone can assist me.
Thanks,
Jay
Sounds like the signal is getting grounded by the dock. Never seen this before, but just seems ODD that the signal is getting killed like that. They do make Serial RS232 to USB dongles to add a RS232 port to any computer with USB 2.0 and drivers installed these days. The dongles are PRETTY cheap as shown here. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812156039
I used a similar device at my last job to program mettler toledo point of sale scales the label formatting parameters for the deli and it worked great. My laptop was lacking a serial port and I picked one of these up for $20 at a local computer shop.
*So not using the dock if thats all the dock was needed for is an option! Thank you I will try ANOTHER docking station first and see if the DS is the actual cause. If not, I will try one of the dongels. Thank you for your reply and recommendation.
