Answer» Hello
I am getting a 'Duplicate name exists on the network' WINDOWS error although I think each of the three computers I am trying to connect have different names. The wired Win 7 PC is called Don-PC, the wireless Win 7 PC is called Steve-PC, and the wired XP PC is called WORKGROUP (please see attached screenshot).
Two wired computers (XP and Win 7) are CONNECTED through a new router (which works), and the wireless Win 7 PC also connects through the same router. All three computers can access the Internet.
Thanks for any advice.

[year+ old attachment deleted by ADMIN]Name can't be Workgroup if workgroup is named Workgroup.I have changed that now, Computer_Commando, so that the wired Win 7 PC is called Don-PC, the wireless Win 7 PC is called Steve_Owner-PC, and the wired XP PC is called XPWORKGROUP.
Should that be OK?
I think so. You can name the PC's whatever you want besides "Workgroup". I have never seen this particular problem before, so am making an educated guess. Let us know.
Full Description: (Any name here, even blank) Computer Name: (Any name here, but not Workgroup) Workgroup: WorkgroupI solved this Commuter_Commando. The computer that gave me the 'duplicate' message was XP but it alloowed me to log on to Windows and then I changed the name. SINCE then, the error has gone.
Thanks.
