Solve : ethernet controller issue?

Answer»

i searched for this topic but couldnt find a direct answer to my problem..  I have satt internet and have a wireless router set up.  I got home from vacation and the linksys would not connect.  My laptop works fine and connects.  After troubleshooting i find a question mark on the ethernet controller (device manager).   I downloaded the DRIVER again from the dell webpage from my laptop.. I tried unistalling the driver and reinstallling it by using a memory stick with the file i downloaded from dell.  I cannot connect to the net with the computer with the problem.

thanksin case i forgot.  I uninstalled the driver (ethernet controller) and restarted.  then i unzipped the download i got from dell for the driver.  The etherenet controller showed back up on device manager and with a question mark again.   I restarted the computer and still the same THING.  On what computer is your problem with?  You apparently have a laptop that connects fine, but what is the make/model of the computer you are having trouble with....its a Dell XPS 400.  2006 model. It runs windows xp.  not sure if it matters but i use satt internet and a wireless router.. so its not hard wiredGo back into device manager, right click on the network adapter, select properties.  What does it say in the "Device Status" box? Will it connect when wired? it said this device is working properly.

i have a yellow question mark BESIDE "other devices" and subfolder Ethernet controllers (with a !)

And i cannot hard WIRE connect it due to LOCATION.. after a week of troubleshooting it finally started working...  instead of "restarting" i turned the power off and back on.  once back restarted the wireless card started picking up the router and i was back online.  i checked the device manager and the ethernet controller was not showing up nor any "question marks".. apparently it wasnt picking up the linksys card for my wireless router.. oh well.. any thoughts as to why this happened???Another computer mystery.... Another computer mystery....

The first thing that I do when I have a problem is take it for a car ride.
