Solve : Extending wireless signal? |
|
Answer» Where I go to church I have one building that has comcast with a wireless access point. I want to put a computer in another building about 100 feet away. The computer has wireless network CARD. Could I use a BRIDGE to extend the wireless signal to the other building?I had a similar need a few years back and ended up using a wi-fi extender that connects to a computer usb port. My need was for a laptop to be used in cases where a wi-fi location was available but distance of reception was variable and could be a 100 feet or more. For the most part i was satisfied with the result. However i ALSO used the device at home where i had the further ability to enhance the reception. I did this by purchasing an antennae to be attached to my router (which is connected to my DSL modem) for stronger transmission capacity than that which came with the router. While this may achieve your desired result a few things additional to consider are that the ability of a wi-fi connection to be readily receivable is NOT only governed by distance. The intervening materials of construction can greatly INFLUENCE reception as well. For instance air is better than glass which is again better than bricks. As an example if you are using your computer inside the building where the wi-fi connection is located it will be stronger than if you are outside even at a shorter distance because of construction material obstacles. Here is a parameter of search that will produce a great deal of EXAMPLES of what i am referring to "wifi antenna extender". This is the link to the one i have used. http://www.hfield.com/ |
