Solve : Fax machine and internet connection?

Answer»

This is wierd.  I bought a fax machine three weeks ago and plugged it into my phone line jack and it works fine.  I didn't connect the two but since I bought the fax I also started having connection issues with my wireless laptop.  Tonight I disconnected my fax machine and BINGO, connection issues are history.  Any ideas as to why this is and how can I use both? Have you got DSL filters?

Also, when you disconnected the fax, did you switch it off as well?

Actually, I jumped the gun on this one.  This morning, with my fax still disconnected, my IP address was wrong.  I've tried, several times, re installing my wireless LAN driver and tried IPCONFIG /RENEW also several times.  It seems to be a sporadic occurrence.  I've disconnected my wireless router and am now mooching off a neighbors.  This also works at times.  What can cause a sporadic problem? Naughty naughty! They know, right??

Anyway, is your IP SET to be CONFIGURED AUTOMATICALLY by DHCP?

Right click the wireless connection in Network Connection, Properties, Then scroll down to TCP/IP, click properties, then are both the tabs that come up set to automatic?

Actually, my neighbor is my daughter and I'm mooching just to see if my router was causing the problem.  were do I find "wireless connection in Network Connection, Properties"  Thanks for the help Quote from: Taras49 on December 30, 2007, 10:22:10 AM

Hold up sorry, I assume you're using Windows XP?

If so:

Control Panel -> Network Connections -> then there is a display of all your network connections.  Right click the one that EXISTS to your router, and the click properties.

I'm doing this all from memory, so hopefully I've  got the wordings correct...No, I'm using Vista
