Solve : FTP Trouble?

Answer»

Hello All,

I have just switched hosting SERVICES and cannot upload any files to this service. The problem is:

When I try to upload a file, the upload will START and get about 10K into the TRANSFER, then it just stops. I can watch the transfer rate slowly decaying (1.4...1.3...1.2...) and the transfer doesn't show any more progress.

Error reading response from server.

Downloading is fine...multiple files, multiple folders, no problem.

I have talked with my hosting service, and there's no problem on their end and same with ISP.

Ok so here is the wierd part. when my brother tried his laptop on the same LAN he can upload fine. If he connects through the wireless network he can also upload with no problem. He can absolutely no issues.

also I am still able to upload files to my old hosting provider with no problems.

I thought it was my router blocking it. The router log showed that it was blocking requests from the new server i was trying to connect to. I bypassed the router straight to the broadband connection and still no joy.

Also my old machine which is also on the network(which was recently upgraded to xp sp2) cannot connect to the server also. Same errors

ive tried port forwarding also no luck with that.

So at this stage, im about to crack up. Some one please tell me what to do.

Thanks Did you use a software firewall to block FTP? No, I have all firewalls disabled. Even when they were turned on, i was able to ftp to other sitesAnd your brother can upload to the same service you are using?

Is there a difference in the FTP software settings on either machines? exactly the same settings. both using FIREFTP on firefox. I cant use the file manager on my hosting either, yet my brother can.Is FireFTP a Firefox plug-in? Yes, but it wont work with WS_FTP PRO or ftp through IE7So you get the same problem in IE? yesHave you installed the latest NIC drivers and Windows updates ?yes all is up to dateApart from a reformat, I'm out of ideas. Try booting into Safe Mode and do an upload. Sounds like you've done all the right things but something is keeping the upload from happening in a timely manner.

So, you have WS_FTP PRO? Have you tried just using it alone to upload to the server? I use WS_FTP PRO and I'm wondering why you aren't using it to connect directly to the server. No BROWSER needs to be involved in this.
