Solve : Gigabit Ethernet Card on Regular PCI?

Answer» HELLO all.

Here's the rundown.

I'm building a small dedicated firewall out of a Celeron 500 Mhz system.  It's upgradable to a PIII 933 Mhz, which I may do if I need to.  It's got two 32-bit PCI slots (revision 2.2).

I want to go ahead and take advantage of as much as possible so I'd like to put two Gigabit NICs in.

Question is I've seen a couple people say that Gigabit over PCI is useless because it needs PCI Express to really take advantage.

But there is soooooo MANY Regular PCI based NIC's out there.

I've tried to confirm this but I can't seem to find much info.

My thought is that it doesn't matter because there is so many cards for sale but on the other hand I know of course it could just be diversified marketing/manufacturing (not sure of the term to USE there, hope you understand what I'm TRYING to get at)

So I obviously need to know this so I don't WASTE my money.

What do you think
