Solve : Having Problems Connecting To Internet After PC Is Restarted Or Turned Back On?

Answer»

I had Satellite Internet installed Tuesday and everything was working great until I shut my PC off. After booting my PC back up, it wouldn't connect back to the internet. I opened my network and sharing center and under 'active networks', it showed a small blue circle and just kept saying "Identifying..." I had the guy who installed it come back out YESTERDAY morning to fix it and he got it back up and working again. I had him shut the PC down and restart it a couple of times to make SURE it would work before he left and everything worked fine. However, after he left I uninstalled a previous dial-up account and had to reboot. As soon as I rebooted the PC, it started doing the same thing.

I had the same thing happen again this morning. The PC disconnected and I couldn't get it to connect back. I tried again this evening. Again, it just kept saying "Identifying...". I left the PC on for a little while and came back over to it and it was finally connected again.

The internet is working fine now and has for the past few hours or so. However, I would like to know what caused this and keep it from happening again. When it was not working, I tried several things, including unplugging the modem to reset it as well as running CMD. I have talked to several people on the phone and no one seems to know what to do. They keep saying that the modem shows online and that it must be in my PC. I am starting to believe this because I tried a laptop and the Internet worked fine. I restarted the laptop several times and it would work great everytime. However, I cannot get it to work all the time on my desktop.

I was told by a tech when it was not working to open the command prompt and type "ipconfig /release" and then "ipconfig /renew", but both would not work. I kept getting an error that the IP could not be released or renewed. It is like every time I turn my PC off, or restart it, I cannot connect. The tech told me that my modem is online and that it had something to do with my IP address not releasing. Does anyone know what I can do to keep this from happening again? I don't want to have to leave my PC on all the time. I just don't have any idea what to do to keep it from happening again. One person I talked to told me to contact Dell to find out why the IP address keeps changing or not being released. But, my PC is out of waranty and they would charge a fee. So, I thought I would ask the awesome people on here.

On a side note, I am now getting a pop-up error constantly about "Stop running this script?" It is happening all the time. How can I get rid of this error as well? I have ATTACHED a screenshot of the error. help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do you have wild blue sat if so some locations need to install the optimizer http://help.wildblue.net/kb/article/1957

Then I would also delete your temp files from your browsers.

Hope this helps you MikeQuote from: hartbeatmr on September 08, 2012, 12:14:15 AM

Thanks for the "welcome". I have WildBlue's new Exede Internet service and on their website it says that the Optimizer could slow down the SPEED. So, I am not sure if I should install it or not. lol
Good evening ThreeD and welcome back

Even my self when I had wildblue I never used there optimizer. But since I left wildblue they have introduced new cable modems, and homepage etc. So i was not sure if it was necessary for there service to run. When i used to have them it was useless to me because i would make the changes manually on each PC and router with out using there software.

So you used dailup service and deleted that connection. That's is OK and should not affect you now that you have a broadband connection. Depending on what your OS is you will want to make sure that IE is set for DHCP. The steps below are for windows XP as I do not know what OS you have. The instructions look very long and complicated but you will be able to do this in a few minutes so don't worry.

Close all open applications on your PC
Select the Start button on the Windows toolbar
Select Control Panel from the menu to open the Control Panel window
In the Control Panel window, select Network and Internet Connections to open the Network and Internet Connections window
In the Network and Internet Connections window, select Network Connections to open the Network Connections window
In the Network Connections window, double-click on the Local Area Connection Icon to open the Local Area Connection Properties window
In the Local Area Connection Properties window, select the General tab.
In the “This connection uses the following items:” section, select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Select the Properties button to open the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window
In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window, verify/select the radio buttons for Obtain an IP Address Automatically and Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically
Select the OK button to save the changes and close the window
Continue to select OK to close out of all open windows and restart your computer

Also they (wildblue) use to offer F-Secure it is useless in my opinion so I would not get it. I would also make sure that you do not have a bug / virus have you done a scan with your AV suite. But I would say to run a scan with MWB from here http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=malwarebytes&platformSelect=Windows&tag=srch%3Ba&searchtype=downloads&filterName=platform%3DWindows&filter=platform%3DWindows because if your laptop is OK it is most likely a issue with your desktop or a bad cat cable / connection or the desktop NIC.

Hopefully this helps you, please let us know how you make out. Mike
I was told by a member from another site I posted on to reset Winstock and IPv4. Since I reset them, it has been connecting fine. So, hopefully that fixed it and it won't mess up anymore. Thanks again!
I turned my PC back on today and it wouldn't connect. However, about 10 or 15 minutes of saying "Identifying", it finally connected. Should it do this, or is something keeping it from connecting right away? Last night when I reset the Winstock and IPv4, it connected almost right away, but today, it took about 10 or 15 minutes. Any idea why? Thanks for all your help.
