Solve : HD no longer recognized?

Answer»

I recently CLONED my older Parallel ATA HD (source) to a larger, newer SATA HD (target)  in my PC. ( I also had a third, older HD RECOGNIZED in the computer).  Thanks to help from this forum the clone worked great.

Today I removed the older (source) ATA HD as no longer necessary and the computer works great on the newer SATA HD. However, the older ATA HD which had been recognized by the computer as a slave is no longer recognized at all.  The jumper is set to slave, and I've even tried removing the jumper, but the drive isn't showing any longer.

I see where SATA doesn't use a master/slave relationship for HDs, but there should be a way to get the older, once recognized HD to work again.

Ideas?

Thanks,

Mike
Is it cabled correctly ? ?
Is it the only drive on the cable ? ?

MBoard======================slave=====master. If you had a master and a slave, and you removed the master, the slave must become the new master. Set jumper to master and use the right connector.

That's what's troubling. The cable that connected the old HD (master) was also connected to the HD that is no longer recognized.  The HD has power, is now the only device on the cable.  Removing the old master HD was the only change made.

The new SATA HD was always connected, and now serves as a 'master' and is working fine.  But the old HD that had been working is no longer recognized.  I've put the jumper on it to 'master' and still nothing. I've removed the jumper entirely and nada.

I'm out of ideas.

MikeIs the IDE disk on the connector at the end of the cable?
Right now the old HD is at the middle of the cable, as the HD that was removed was at the end.  But I've tried attaching the cable at the end and doesn't make a difference. Is it visble in the BIOS?
How can I check this?

I've checked thru Disk Management but the HD isn't seen.

Not sure where to check next. QUOTE from: coyote454 on November 03, 2012, 02:16:30 PM

How can I check this?

Check your machine documentation for instructions on how to enter BIOS setup and set up disks.
