Solve : Help! Internet won't connect!?

Answer»

Hi guys,

I got a new used "computer" (motherboard with integrated GRAPHIC card, ram memory, processor and hard disk that has installed xp along with proper drivers for the components),  and as I connect the patch cable (standard RJ 45) the NIC lights up, the message pops up saying it's connected, but as when I go to my explorer it SAYS there is no internet, that just confuses me...

It's probably a tiny thing that I'm overlooking.

I'm real close to reinstalling the whole thing, but then I will need to find the drivers on the internet, which will be pain in the *censored* because the previous owner lost the cd's...

Any ideas?

Thanks! You may get such a message if your firewall is preventing communication between you and your router or modem. So try turning off your firewall temporarily to see if that's the issue.

Check with your ISP to see what your network settings should be.  DHCP is pretty normal. Now, if your computer is not set for DHCP, that could be the issue. If you're using a directly connected modem, your ISP should give your the IP settings for your computer.

What does the other end of the Ethernet cable (RJ-45) connect to? Is it a router, gateway router, or a modem? Have you installed any software for the modem/router? It may require this. Quote from: jan2011 on September 17, 2013, 06:25:12 AM

It connects to a router/switch, the thing is that I USE the same cable on my computer that I use all the time, so I guess it's not hardware issue. I'm thinking there is more to firewall... The thing is that the "computer" was used in a big time company and it could be that they disabled the internet somehow... I looked around in firewall settings, but just primary things and didn't saw anything out of ordinary, could be overlooking...

And in device manager says that device is working properly for the NIC, so the driver-wise should be fine..Using a flash DRIVE and a working computer with internet connection to download the software and save the logs,

Download MiniToolBox and open/run the program.
When open, checkmark or select all options then click Go.
A notepad will open then copy-paste the report on your next reply.
