Answer» Hi all. In your browser, go to http://192.168.1.1 Whenever I try to get there [there being the ZyXEL config spot] the request just times out...how do I get there? Quote from: nightreaper on February 28, 2011, 03:05:12 AM Whenever I try to get there [there being the ZyXEL config spot] the request just times out...how do I get there? Are you sure 192.168.1.1 is the correct IP address for your router? This can vary by brand of router. Do you have documentation for your ZyXEL router? A reference: http://compnetworking.about.com/od/workingwithipaddresses/f/getrouteripaddr.htmftp://ftp2.zyxel.com/P-662H-D1/user_guide/P-662H-D1_3.40_Ed3.pdf ftp://ftp2.zyxel.com/P-662HW-D1/quick_start_guide/P-662HW-D1_2.pdf These are what I have been going by. Sorry...these ones should: ftp://ftp2.zyxel.com/P-662H-D1/user_guide/P-662H-D1_3.40_Ed3.pdf ftp://ftp2.zyxel.com/P-662HW-D1/quick_start_guide/P-662HW-D1_2.pdf Quote from: nightreaper on March 02, 2011, 12:22:47 AM Sorry...these ones should: The forum automatically adds the "HTTP://" get rid of that when you copy and paste into your browser. Quote from: nightreaper on February 28, 2011, 03:05:12 AM I managed to slove part of that problem by just plugging the ethernet cord [from the optus box] into what I presumed was only an 'out' ethernet slot in the ZyXEL, with slot no.2 leading to the computer....who would've thought. There is no "in and out" with ethernet. What I would suggest doing is taking the Optus out of the equation, and try re-configuring the Zyxel with the username and password for your new internet connection. If you can't do that, then: Take the Optus off the network, put the Zyxel into the network. Setup a wireless network on the Zyxel. Disable DHCP on the Zyxel. Take the Zyxel out of the network, put the Optus back in. Connect an ethernet cable to the Zyxel and the Optus. You should now have an internet connection and a wireless network, although it might be a little bit more COMPLICATED than that. Try my first suggestion, and let us know how you get on. If it doesn't work I'll expand my second suggestion so it's a through as I can be.I can't get rid of the optus because it also has the phone line attached... Though that second option...it sounds really good. Would you, please, be able to expand? [Possibly as a sidenote, what is the IP whatnot, and why does it not work at the moment?] Thankies! Quote from: nightreaper on March 03, 2011, 10:42:38 PM I can't get rid of the optus because it also has the phone line attached... Does the Zyxel not have a DSL (phone line) connection? If so, you should be able to re-configure it to work. I'll have a look at the documentation you linked to and see if I can offer up some more percise step by steps for you. Also, which one is your Optus box? http://help.optuszoo.com.au/help/dsl/connected/windows/optus_modemsApproach 1: Find the welcome letter that came from Optus, this has a username and password on it. Disconnect all cables from the Optus box and put it to one side. Plug Zyxel box in, with the DSL line (normally grey) to the phone socket (the DSL port of the mircofilter) and the ethernet (normally yellow) to your computer. Browse to http://192.168.1.1 The default password is 1234, enter this when prompted by the website (or use your custom password as applicable). Use the Internet Access Wizard Setup, and when prompted enter the username and password from the welcome letter. If this wizard fails, then set the connection up manually, ensuring that Encapsulation = PPPoE, and leave all other settings as the default on the ISP Parameters for Internet Access page. Approach 2: Disconnect all cables from the Optus box and put it to one side. Plug Zyxel box in, with the ethernet (normally yellow) to your computer. Browse to http://192.168.1.1 The default password is 1234, enter this when prompted by the website (or use your custom password as applicable). Select "Go to Advanced setup" Select "LAN" in the left-hand column Select "DHCP Setup" Disable DHCP -- I'm not sure where the box/button you need to press is, as I don't have a screen shot of it available. *** Unplug the Zyxel box Plug the Optus box back in Plug the Zyxel box in, and attach an ethernet cable from the Optus to the Zyxel. Attach an ethernet cable from the Zyxel to your desktop. The network should now work, and you should have wireless. If this isn't the case then add these steps in where the ***'s are: Select IP (in the LAN menu) Change the IP address to 10.1.1.254 (subnet mask of 255.255.255.0) Note: If you have to do this, it is also worth setting the Optus box up so that it doesn't assign 10.1.1.254 to something else (unlikely but possible). To do that: Browse to http://10.1.1.1 CLICK Advanced Setup Then you're looking for DHCP settings, so it might be under LAN? Then change the range from 10.1.1.2 to 10.1.1.200. Sorry but I don't have screen shots so this step is rather vague. Finally: Let me know how you get on. Quote from: Sid on March 04, 2011, 02:35:09 AM Approach 1: I got a bit confused [most likely through no fault of your own] at this point. The 'socket' that is embedded in the wall is not a phone line, nor an ethernet port, but a round cable that is the same on both ends [for refference, the guide that I'm looking at is http://www.cisco.com/web/consumer/support/userguides2/4012160.pdf] - it is described as being a "F Connector", or an "RF Cable". The ZyXEL doesn't have an input for that, so I plugged in the phone line from the "tel1" port in the optus to the "DSL" in the ZyXEL. Then I used an ethernet cable from the ZyXEL to the computer, but the result was a connection with "little or no connectivity", and when I try to get onto the 'http://192.168.1.1' I get a "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" message. So that makes it impossible to move on.....am I plussing things in wrong? Thanks! Quote from: Sid on March 04, 2011, 02:35:09 AM Disconnect all cables from the Optus box and put it to one side. With this one, is it the same 'plug layout' as the one above? By that, I mean, is the ZyXEL plugged via phone line to the tel1 port on the Optus box [a Scientific Atlanta dpc2203C model]? Or is it just standing alone? Thanks so much for your help, though... |
