Answer» Got the idea to do this from the Feb poll, and kinda thought that it was time for a new poll as Feb is a long way away...
Basically fill out the poll above, then post below exactly how your setup is wired. Or upload a network map!
My Setup starts below this line _______________________________________ _______________________________________ _____________________________________
My house is Mainly wired, the only wiring I use is Cat6, although I have some Cat7 running between my servers and one switch for extra high speed! I have a Central Point in the attic, with all my cabling BRANCHING out around the house. A minimum of 2 access points in each ROOM. Wireless access points installed into parts of the wall that have been left empty since the initial build, and then covered with plastic mesh covers.
4 Wireless access points in total, I haven't worked it out exactly - but i reckon about 130 network ports around the place. I have 3 servers running with alot of virtualisation in place to distribute live tv, music, video and picture libraries around the house. Plus all my voice transfers are done over the ethernet connections. I have part home automation also done over the network, and media devices in all rooms - all controllable by any computer with Windows Media Player 12 on.
Been like this for 2 years now... was all installed myself. Thanks Allan for moving It - Me not thinking!Wireless B/G router in the center of the house. Computer or other device in nearly every room except the bathrooms (just haven't got to them yet).
Have a laptop in the kitchen for recipes and music (my second passion is cooking after computers). An HP Windows Mobile device (wifi connected, non-phone version) for reading and mail NEXT to the bed (gets toted into the master bathroom sometimes). A laptop in the guest room. A DESKTOP in the office we use for records of our three businesses (computer repair, translation/interpretation/language teaching, and a bag shop), an Android-based tablet running Desktop Remote to control the multimedia computer in the living room, my Galaxy Tab which gets dragged EVERYWHERE, and the two computers my girlfriend and I use for gaming in the nerd room.
