Solve : How to log internet usage of various users on the same router?

Answer»

Hi,

In my company we are using an internet connection that has a pay per MB plan. I need help on logging the data usage of each user, either based on IP addresses or MAC Addresses (the latter will be better, so that we do not have to assign static IP addresses).

We have tried DUMeter, but it has several SHORTCOMINGS. It has to be installed on each of the PCs connecting through the router. It has issues with non-windows devices such as mobile phones and tablets. It can also be disabled by the user.

I am okay with DEDICATING one PC for just the purpose of logging the usage.http://bandwidthcontroller.com/Thanks for the help.

I have downloaded the trial version of the software and have installed it on my PC.

I have run through the settings and help files, but am not really able to GRASP the way the program runs and how I need to customise it to my requirements.

I have about 10 clients who connect at a time to the router, so I guess I need to use the Gateway Mode. Do I need to install it on  a PC running SERVER 2003, or any OS will do? Also can you please guide me on what I need to do with the settings thereafter to be able to ACHIEVE my aim?

I am a rookie and all the various options and terminologies are quite intimidating!
