Solve : I need to set up a wireless network.?

Answer»

Alright, so I live and rent out of someone else's house. How can I set up a WIRELESS network and is it possible to do so and not interfere with their internet, which they've specified I'm not to use? You'll need an internet connection via Cable/DSL to set up a wireless network. Then you can set up a wireless router.Quote from: unsustainable on October 12, 2010, 11:24:20 PM

You will need to contact the local ISP and arrange to get your own connection.I'd say it would be better to buy a wireless router and setup a network using one connection.

Today's router aren't difficult to setup, just as long as you can establish a connection you're good to go. Once you have that done, setup a share key to protect your network from unwanted leechers. Share that key with your tenant(s). There should be no degradation with your signal, pending number of people living in household that uses the Internet.

I myself have 2 tenants living in our basement, plus my sister staying with me for school, and our signal has been fine. I use torrents alot and haven't had a complaint yet. HOWEVER, if you're afraid of connectivity degradation, you can block keywords with your routers to prevents excessive downloading.

Since the OP hasn't responded we will have to wait and see.Quote from: unsustainable on October 12, 2010, 11:24:20 PM

The landlord's attitude about this is unfortunate and unreasonable. Do they expect you to have a second phone line or cable line installed? Would they allow that? I suspect not, so how do they expect you to get Internet access?

As hedgehog88 said, sharing an Internet connection should not be a problem. Does the landlord use a router? Perhaps you could offer to pay $10-$15 extra PER month in rent to persuade them to let you share their Internet connection or, if they have no router, offer to buy the router and set it up.Hi Everyone! I just want to know what the best wifi router? I'm planning to buy one but don't know which one to pick. Thanks. Quote from: actionfigure412 on November 03, 2010, 01:58:18 AM

You need to start your own thread to get support. If possible, you can try to manage others to share a common wireless network with you. But frankly speaking, I don't LIKE wireless network, it always works badly.
